Introducing our revolutionary Glaucoma GDx eye exam
 Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness in the world today. If you have a family history of glaucoma, family members have at least 10 times the risk of developing the condition.
At Visique Shattky on Russell Optometrists we are raising the awareness of glaucoma - often referred to as the ‘sneak thief of sight’. Tens of thousands of New Zealanders have glaucoma but
don’t even know it and women make up 60% of all cases!
 Our revolutionary ZEISS GDx exam lets us see the thickness of the nerve fibres in the back of your eyes, then compares them to normal values. Glaucoma has historically been hard to diagnose accurately and the traditional eye pressure test fails to uncover glaucoma in one third of patients with the disease.
The test is quick and comfortable - plus you don't need to have your pupils dilated. You simply look into the GDx while it safely scans the back of your eye. Total exam time usually takes less than a minute, and our GDx system creates easy to read images that our Optmetrists can analyse.

Enable Funding Programme
From October 2007, families with Community Services or High Use Health cards now qualify for subsidised optometrists visits and a subsidy toward the cost of glasses for their children up until their 16th birthday. The age limit was previously eight years old, so this is fantastic news for families who have older children with eye problems. The subsidy amount is $281.25 (including GST). A further $50 (including GST) is available for children that require an adult size frame.
